Liz Zlot Summerfield Benefit

From Lindsay Roger's blog:

In April of this year Liz was diagnosed with a type of cancer called non-hodgkins Lymphoma. When she got the news of her cancer all studio work for Liz and her husband, glass blower Scott Summerfield, stopped. For most artists a halt to work, combined with illness and bills, is a hardship too large to manage alone. Like most plans, our ideas for this benefit started out small and have since bloomed in to something that I believe will be a wonderful, fun and supportive event. With all that said, there are several ways that you can participate!

1) Attend the live auction at Penland or visit the online sale as a buyer!

The live auction is August 16th in the Northlight Building at Penland School of Crafts. Doors will open at 1:00pm at which point there will be light refreshments, Bandana Klezmer will provide fabulous entertainment and visitors will have a chance to take a good look at the work available in the live and silent auctions. The live auction of work will begin at 2:00pm and is expected to last around an hour or so. At the end of the auction visitors can pick up and pay for their pieces knowing that 100% of the proceeds will go to helping Liz, Scott and their young daughter, Roby, get through this really hard time.

The online sale will be held on Etsy.com and will begin September 1st. I will post more information about the online auction (including the web address) as we get closer to the date.

2) Help us find more buyers by sending out an email of the postcard.
You can access an image of the postcard in jpeg or pdf format by clicking the following links to the right.

3) You can make a monetary donation to a PayPal account created for Liz's benefit.
By clicking on the donate button to the right/above, or using this link below, you can be assured that all donations will go quickly, safely and directly to Liz.

Upcoming Events, pt 1

Mountain Biz Works is having it's first ever fund raising event, and it's going to be a great party that will benefit a really great resource for entrepreneurs and small businesses in Asheville.

The party is next Thursday, September 18 at The Orange Peel from 6:30 - 10:00pm, and will feature music by MBW alum Kat Williams, Jason Pogue and Virginia Waite. Other MBW alums will satisfy the tastebuds with yummies from Sugo, The French Broad Chocolate Lounge and Heinzelmannchen Brewery.

AND - as if that's not enough - there will be a silent auction featuring donated work and services from all over Asheville, including yours truly who donated a piece of pottery and a month of private lessons at the new studio. Bid early, bid often!

Tickets are onsale online, at the Orange Peel box office or from any MBW location. Tickets are $35 for general admission, $25 for MBW alum.

Come get up close and personal with some of Asheville's thriving small businesses, and the help support the organization that supports us so well!

a little plug for my sponsors...

Mountain Biz Works, of which I am a proud member and beneficiary of their incredible small business services, is having a gala fund raiser! I've donated a piece for their silent auction, and I may be calling on some of my other friends in the arts for donations, so heads up!

Click on the link above to get more information on the event (Thursday, September 18 at the Orange Peel), as well as more information on Mountain Biz Works.

Other blog updates - I just got a link to my friend Jen's blog for her business, Jenafusion. Check it out for some really cool handmade items using mainly recycled materials.

Today was busy and productive, but alas no pictures! Got a little more moved over to the new space, paid some bills, got some help scheduled for the weekend to do a lot of the big moving, did some tailgate shopping, met with Jane, hiked with Lissa, went bowling with my roommate and now settling in to update the books for the month. Nope, didn't get into the studio to throw, and had to just call it at one point rather than beat my head against the wall for not doing it. Tomorrow is early morning hike, into the studio to work on platters, then late lunch with Anne & Steve who are camping nearby in Pisgah.

Off to the books...peace
